Description
Black Bird is a Japanese shōjo manga series written and illustrated by Kanoko Sakurakoji. The story follows a high school girl named Misao who can see supernatural beings. On her sixteenth birthday, she is attacked by these creatures but is saved by her childhood friend Kyo, who is a demon. Misao learns that she is the rare 'Bride of Prophecy' and depends on Kyo for protection from those who want to consume her blood for power. Marrying her brings prosperity to the demon clan, causing conflict among different demon clans. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine and won the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōjo manga category. It was also adapted into a drama CD, a light novel, and a stage play. Black Bird was licensed for English release by Viz Media. The manga received positive and mixed reviews for its playful and erotic nature, but also criticism for its portrayal of the main characters.
