Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls

Description

Basilisk is a Japanese manga and anime series written by Masaki Segawa. It is based on the 1958 novel The Kouga Ninja Scrolls by Futaro Yamada and was serialized in Kodansha's Young Magazine Uppers from 2003 to 2004. The story takes place in 1614, during a bitter blood feud between two rival ninja clans, Iga Tsubagakure and Kouga Manjidani. The clans are forced into a ruthless competition by Tokugawa Ieyasu to determine the next shogun. The series won the 2004 Kodansha Manga Award for general manga. The anime adaptation aired from April to September 2005. There are also sequel manga adaptations and a second anime series set 10 years after the original.
