Description
Appleseed is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Masamune Shirow. It is set in the 22nd century, after a non-nuclear Third World War has devastated the Earth's population. The story follows Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires, former SWAT members, as they protect the utopian city of Olympus from various threats. The series blends cyberpunk and mecha genres with politics, philosophy, and sociology. Appleseed has been adapted into an original video animation, three feature films, a TV series, and two video games. It received critical acclaim and won the 17th Seiun Award for Best Manga in 1986.
